The Long Way Home, Barbara Cohen

Significance

The significance of this book is that it takes you through a frightening issue of breast cancer, and gives it a humorous, honest and reveals a family who must learn to rely on another and have trust and say whats on their mind. So the reasoning for caring about this book is that is shows a family who has almost and is falling apart, for lack of talking and about whats going on in their mind. It shows how a family is broken down by a medical issue of breast cancer by their mother and they lose the bond between them, but they come to mind and really think about it and things work out for them. Also, the two sisters in the family Sally and Emily are being sent to a camp, instead of the usual of going to the beach. So Sally is mad at everybody, on this summer. So this terrible summer turns into a wonderful summer. At camp, at home, and on the bus between the two places, Sally really finds her way back to Emily, her mother, back to hope. That's the significance of what it shows for this book.

Perspective

My perspective of this book is that it was a great book. The author Barbara Cohen really put lost of thought into this book and made it a excellent book. The title she had for this book was also excellent (the Long Way Home). It really shows how a family takes lots of struggles and goes trough a lot and returns home after the long ride of honesty and trust and make it. Quote "there is nothing like being home." The characters where also great they showed lots of real aspects that I picked up and it really felt like I was in the book. All of the characters had different attitudes and showed different emotions which also gave the book the 5 star mentality. I thought it was a great book and it really made me think about how things can affect your living and if you just do or say that simple thing, things will work out for you and many others lives.

Evidence

For this book I found lots of evidence in which supported my statement above. The main argument that is being made in this book or the question that is being asked is that. Will anything ever be the same? The facts that are used to support it is that in the book it shows how things and people come back together from the family on selective pages and tells you that things will come to past and be brought out in a good way. Another facts is that in the book is says that they get a better understanding of each other and become more open which also ties into this statement. I know these facts versus opinions because it shows and tells me throughout the book as I see their lives progress. There are broader questions being asked like, Is Mom going to die?, Will Sally get breast cancer someday too?, Is there anyone Sally can turn to when her whole is falling apart? Those are some questions that can be answered reading this book, but I reflected upon the main argument that was made.

Connections

This book made lots of connections. This book can connect to the real world because, there are families out there struggling and not understanding or talking to one another and something is going on but they can't get it out, so this connects to lots of people in the real world. It's been influenced by the past just the same way it is going on in the real world, it been affected by the struggle known when breast cancer comes to women families and they break down and don't communicate and they go there ways. It can affect the future by people knowing that things will happen that you think shouldn't but you shouldn't lose your bond and still communicate and have faith and hope and things will come through in the long run and work out just fine.

Supposition

As I conclude this book I want to say that it was an amazing family story. Life would be different if this book didn't take place, because now families can realize things will be all right through all of the hurt and pain if you have faith and believe you will receive a blessing and don't ever lose your bond stay close. I don't think I would change none of this book. It was great!

The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks, Nancy McArthur

Significance

The significance of this book is that it shows two characters sharing the same room. One side of the room is a disastrous, dirty area with dirty socks everywhere. The other side that is clean and neat. It is important because it shows two brothers sharing the same room, and it relays a message in a imaginative way which I engaged into reading the story. It also is important because as the line above tells it can give you a reminder that you should keep your room clean room and it added an extra which was the plants which gave the imaginative way of would can happen if you keep a dirty room. Why you should care about this book is that the two characters Michael and Norman shared one room and it tells you in a way that if you keep your room dirty and bad looking, more troubled things will happen in your room potentially.

Perspective

My perspective of this book is that it I thought it was an okay book. I think the author wrote this book because she had the thought of putting in to kids mind that what could happen to their room if they keep it dirty and it would shock them and they would potential keep it clean. My view of this book is that I think it was point less if you were reading it you would see that it is talking about the same issue and topic. I don't think this was a great book to read but I received what the author was trying to get out. So what I received as the message is that keep your room clean because if you don't and what to plant some bean seeds it will eat all that dirtiness that you left on the ground esp. dirty socks. I also thought this book was very imaginative.

Evidence

The argument that is being made in this book that the main characters one of which is neat and the other which is dirty share the same room. So, the argument is whether or not Michael the dirty person needs to clean up his side of the room. The facts used to support this argument is that both of his parents told him to that he needs to clean his room and that it was very dirty, his brother said his room was dirty and and coming across to his part which was neat, and the special bean plant showed that room was dirty by eating his dirty socks that was everywhere. These comments can be facts or opinions in the book they so them as opinions and my personal thought is that I think they are opinions and facts because you can show it in tow different ways.

Connections

The books connects to the real world because there is a lot of kids out in the world that keep a bad room and it shows them what will happen if they keep like that. I think it has been influenced by the past because she the author has lots of books like this one so I think that's how it was influenced and this time she made a book about the bedroom scene. This book could affect the future because I think if kids at the young imaginative way they will read this and say I don't want that to happen to my room and keep it clean without the motivation by their parents. Those are the connections I have gotten from this book.

Supposition

As I conclude this book I think it was okay. Life would be the same with or without this book I think. This book reaches out to younger people and tells them a story. I would change nothing of the book I think it was a good story line but a bad and borieng book to read.

The Face On The Milk Cartoon, Caroline B. Cooney

Significance

The significance of this book is that it teaches you through a mysterious way, with a great storyline about a kidnapped girl who doesn't really know what's happening but has a clue. We should care about this book because it talks a lot about family, school, and live style. It shows how a girl in her teens, 15 goes trough a life of not knowing after seeing that she was kidnapped at the age of three. It takes up to a new level each time you turn the page it has a lot to do with honesty as the main character (Janie Johnson) goes through her ages not knowing and at a point she finds out and is in search of her real mother and father. So, it is significant because it shows the twisted events that changed the lives of the girl and her two families. Which can show us what family really means and how it is important. An example shown in this book is: that Janie's real family was taken away from here because of somebody who she was kidnapped by who she loved through her life.

Perspective

My perspective of this book is that it was good and mysteriously exciting. My opinion on this book is that it is a great family novel which teaches you a lot about family and how things can go wrong or right in a family. The author wrote this book thinking of how she could show a kidnapping by a great family who the kidnappee loved very much. I think the author tried to show family in a different way by having these two families one happy and one sad of a lost of family member. She was trying to get the question out: who are these aliens who claim to be my parents? Showing that the girl didn't know any bad people which what a kidnapper is so she had no clue but then shaw a milk cartoon with her on it a had a clue. The characters in the story really bring out the book and gave me the reader a better understanding. They showed me with actions in the book and how the dialogue was given. So, I would say that this book is for everybody 3rd grade and up it shows and tells you about family which is the main topic.

Evidence

The evidence I received to support my opinion is that in the book it shows it. The argument being is that the girl doesn't know who is her real family and the family see has know she doesn't know if she was kidnapped by them. The facts in the book to support that argument is that her family she is living with admits that they kidnapped her and she was there grandchild. Also, she found out where her brothers lived and she saw resemblance in New Jersey, where she was claimed to be kidnapped. I know these are facts not opinions because it says in the book in clear letters that I received. So, that's the evidence I have received from this book.

Connections

This book connects to the world a lot. This book connects to the real world because there are many kids that are kidnapped from their parents ate a young or old age and get harmed. At, least in this book the girl is with a loving family. This book has been influenced by the past because, there has been many crimes and kids don't know what is going on and as they grow up they seem to get a clue. Most, kids in the real world are killed after a kidnapping. This book can affect the future because if people read this they might be more protective of their kids and they can see how important family is and they will think twice and not kidnap little kids.

Suppositions

As I conclude this book I want to say it was a good book. As I turned every page it unravled many new things. It was full of mystery along with telling a story. What I would change in this book is to straight in the story instead of taking baby-steps into each portion of the story. That's one of the big things I would change in this book. Other than that I enjoyed reading this book that tell's a lot about the family and school side of life.

The Outside Shot, Walter Dean Myers

Significance

The significance of this book is that it teaches you college life and the way things go reallying on what you do. The subject being brought up is mostly is the classes you take and the sport of basketball being played. Through both of those things it comes down to how you react and go along with the environment or the outside shot at things. It's important because the book tells you how things go and how things will go and this is important because it gives you a heads up and a chance to think about college and what you want to do or pursue, and how are you going to do it with a successful manor. This book gives you something to look forward to and let alone think about. The total essence is that if you stay on the right track and keep your mind clear, go for things, and take the time to break before you react to things or people you will be successful at the college level and things will go more fluently for you.

Perspective

My perspective of this book is that it was an okay book. I think it could have relayed the message a little bit better for a more general understanding. In the book you could read on and on and not find the message if you didn't dig into. I found what it was and it was a great message. The author defiantly showed the authentic view of college life. As I told it was hard in the beginning to pull it out but as the book went along you would find the truly inspired sports writing the author put into the book. Which zoomed me in or gave me a better view of the electrifying action. The characters in the story where good providing better perspective of the story and about the life of college young adults. This book would affects kids in High School and college to get you an understanding and a better understanding of the components that tie into this wonderful sports story. That's what I received and my view or opinion of this fast-paced plot.

Evidence

The evidence I received while reading this book was that if you want to make it to the professional level you need to keep your head straight and your plate clean. Another argument being made was if the main character (Lonnie) could make it as a college man, with distraction on his outside shot a a bright future. The facts or showings I received to support my comments was that Lonnie throughout the book made bad decision and didn't be very successful as he wanted to be. For example, getting side money from a bet on the way he played the game or how the team played the game. This made him side track on his way to pursue his goal in college. Many things happened on the road to make it big but after a matter of time he pulled himself together in some ways in others kept doing. These are things you can think about. I would say these thoughts are very much true in many ways in a slight way it can be shown as opinions. In my mind it is very factual information.

Connection

This books shows a strong connection to the world in all eras. The connection that comes from this text is the relationship to sports in the professional level and how many people get caught for things that are illegal to that sport and things that you should do. For example: taking a performance enhancing drugs like steroids to boost them up. The example showed in this book was players betting on there game which is a criminal thing at the professional level. This book has been influenced from the past because many players that have played have done certain things to get something taken away from them. Coming in thinking there would make it and do something stupid to mess up their opportunity at something they have gained. The connection to the world right know is worst than the past many players have used or did something that shouldn't have done. For example: Barry Bonds a great baseball player who has the most home runs in MLB history is on trail for using steroids, something that can mess up his whole career. Another example that has happened is Michael Vick one of the best players in the NFL is in federal prison for fighting dogs another stupid thing. These are things that have occurred in my time. This book will affect the future by people understanding that it's more important to succeed with no risk than fail with many. That's the connection this book can bring to the world outside.

Suppostion

As I wrap up my thoughts of this book I shall remember that to succeed you need to have faith and play the game right not allowing nothing come in your way. Life would be different if this book never happened. If your receive the true meaning and understand that, " Life's battles don't always go to the faster or stronger man, but in the end the one who wins is the man who thinks he can." If you keep that quote in your mind you will be a successful person to go after anything you want grab with nothing in your tracks to receive it. That's what I received from this book that was a very positive thing that I have read.

Charlie's Raven, Jean Craighead George

Significance

The significance of this book is that it teaches you about natural history, myth, and a family narrative about life and death. In this book you receive lots of information about birds and more importantly the Raven. You receive the natural backgrounds of this bird what they do, how they grow, and how they live life with such instinct reactions to certain things. The main character Blue Sky (baby raven), gave an great example of how a raven would live. This was also important because, it showed you as how a family would react toward the thought of life vs death. Making sure they used the things they needed to pursue the goal of staying a live. So, you see lots of family incorporated in this story. The story had lots of importance and was a great book to read for nature and it was a very mysterious book.

Perspective

My perspective of this book is that the author was trying to connect with the readers through a character which was a raven. So the author used different tools to get the readers hooked into the characters. That followed with great education you could have learned. You could learn about religious nature, animal nature, and human nature. It compares three types of nature and how the react and relate to certain things. For example, the ravens knew about Mr. Spinder and gave a call which meant to stay away or danger. That shows animal nature to human nature. My opinion is that this book was great and that the author reached out to all but mostly children. By using compelling animal characters like Blue Sky a raven to show the book.

Evidence

The evidence I received to state my perspective was clearly written in the book. The argument being made was if ravens were good or bad and eventual what mystery did they have. The factual information I received to support this argument was that ravens are good birds but they also a very mysterious at times. These statements in my mind are not facts but opinions because people or other things can have a different opinion of the stuff being stated. For example, in the book Charlie wrote that ravens were good because they know death also for bad and mysterious. Others could have a different perspective or columns that they would have said about the topic. That's why they are opinions vs facts.

Connection

The book connected to lots of things. This book relates to reality because, it shows a bird and many other birds doing things that they would normally do. You found out more here than you would find out in the real world. They use raven talk to show the way the communicate which also ties into the reality aspect. It's been influenced by the past becuase they recieved early information about what ravens did and how they lived by researching prior to writing the book. This book can affect the futre by giving them information about ravens by opinion to see if the are freindly or not and it is a good book to read just to find out key elements you can learn about nature and the background of the bird raven.

Supposition

As I conculed this book I would say it was an excellent book and one of the best animal stories I have ever read. I think life would be the same with this book or without it. This book just made it a little bit eaiser and less complicated to stutied a terrific bird like the raven. If any big part of the book had changed it would have changed my view of the book and made it less interesting. This was a great book, Charlie's Raven and I learned lots of life stories from it.

Dough Boy, Peter Marino

Significance

The significance of this book is that it teaches you a lesson. In this book their was a boy named (Tristan), who was obsessed. A lot of things were going wrong in his life, with his parents getting divorced, struggling in high school to gain respect, and is helped and talked about with his weight control. The importance of this book is that it teaches you to control your weight and stay fit and for others that people who are obsessed can have something going on in their life or that they don't care about there weight. It doesn't help when others talk about or don't accept people that are not fit or are weird. It makes it hard on them to find the guts to make their own way. You should care about this because; you don’t ever know what can happen as a result.

Perspective

My perspective of this book is that the author was trying to relay a message to all people. Saying that if you are obsessed take control of your body and don't let people influence what you are doing, but if it is good you can take the idea or get help. Also, if you are talking or not accept somebody for how they look encourage not doubt them on the problem and don't let others influence you about other people. On the characters part they showed a lot of stuff that I am talking about in the book. I don't think the author's experiences had anything to do with him writing the book, but I think he wrote it for a reason that he thought was good.

Evidence

The evidence I received while reading this book to say my perspective was that their was an argument being made. The argument was that Tristan the main character was overweight and was doing fine the Kelly moved in with his step dad and she was a nutritional person who judged overweight people and thought Tristan was overweight. She put him on a diet and exercise program. Tristan wasn't pleased with that idea he thought he was fine, and then conflict was going on in the house. To support this argument there is not really facts about it is an opinion in the stand point of who the person. An opinion that Kelly had was that Tristan needed to lose weight and that he was obsessed. The opinion that Tristan had was he thought he was doing fine and didn't think he needed to go on a diet. So, there are facts but little in the perspective of how people think of others. A fact to support would be that Tristan is overweight and Kelly is a nutritional person.

Connection

The connection to the world is a good example of this issue. The present example of this issue is that a lot Americans eat fast food most of the time. They name us the big or fat country because of our intake. This book can show you that it is not good to eat junk food all the time but some of the time and eat nutritional food like fruit or food with proteins. In the future this book can resolve two problems. One to teach people to watch their diet. Secondly that you shouldn't judge others by how they look in appearance. This relates to the past because the American obsessed population increased over the years. It relates to reality because you see people who are obsessed and don't seem to get around easily so you should help them not harm them.

Suppostion

As I draw conclusion for this book. I just want to tell you that keep your body on a good diet and you wouldn't have to be on the track of overweight problems. For the people that see people that are overweight encourage them to do better for themselves don't bring them down.
